Review of Diaya Cheddar Cheese- Yummy!

Share this page:
* Update: Since cleaning up my diet more, I no longer buy this product. Canola oil is one of the main ingredients, and I try not to eat that particular oil. The product does taste good, and if the company were to use a different oil, I would probably buy it occasionally.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, if you haven't picked up any Daiya cheddar style shreds, what are you waiting for?! Seriously, this stuff is good!

I get mine from my local Whole Foods. To me, this stuff actually tastes better than cheese. It melts fabulously, but honestly it took me a few packs for it to last long enough to try it melted. :)

Diaya cheese is free of genetically modified ingredients, and word is out that it is free of msg. I wouldn't call it a health food in that I don't know of any health benefits, but it's mighty good on broccoli, so maybe it is good for you in that it helps you to consume more veggies??

I actually read an account of a lady complaining to her waiter that he had given her real cheese when she ordered vegan cheese on her pizza at a restaurant. I can see that happening... take a look at it melted on an Amy's California style veggie burger:

Yum.

Until next time.... God bless!

Cashew Cheese Substitute Recipe- Vegan and Dairy Free!

This is a very tasty cheese substitute recipe. I used it to make vegan lasagna. I think it would be pretty good on pasta, too. To make this recipe you will need:
  • 1 1/2 cups of cashew, soaked
  • 3 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt to taste
Simply put all of the ingredients into a blender, such as the Ninja, and blend until smooth and creamy.

Vegan Seed Cheese Recipe and Kitchen Shopping...

This is seed 'cheese' made with sunflower seeds. It is surprisingly good. I made this last week and put it in the freezer. This week I plan to make a vegan lasagna using this and a few other ingredients. I found this concept on http://veganepicurean.blogspot.com/. You can use any kind of seed you like in place of sunflower seeds. For this recipe you will need:
  • 1 cup raw hulled sunflower seeds (soaked)
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • @ 1/4 cup water <~ add slowly, use more or less as needed.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt to taste
Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.  Enjoy!

I also want to talk to you all about about a store my mom and daughter told me about last week: CSNStores.com. They have everything you could imagine for your home and kitchen, from stainless steel kitchen items (which I plan to try soon!) to beautiful dining tables (<~ wish I could try soon! :). I will be reviewing an item soon from there, and they will be sponsoring a giveaway for Yummy Vegetarian Delights in late September. Stay tuned for that! Neat site- check them out. :)

Until next time.... God bless!

Yummy Vegan Pizza Recipe

This recipe is very good. I have found that it freezes very well, too. I didn't eat it all the day I made it and so I cut it in pieces and let them freeze individually on a tray in the freezer, then transferred them into a brown lunch bag in the freezer. Now I just pop a piece in the oven when I want a quick meal.

This recipe will make 2 pizzas. Half or double as needed. For this recipe you will need:
  • @ 32 ounces tomato sauce
  • prepared pizza dough (recipe here)
  • vegan ricotta/ cottage cheese (recipe here)
  • parmesan cheese substitue (recipe here)
  • toppings of your choice ( I used spinach :)
  1.  Simply arrange dough into pans, add desired amount of sauce, vegan ricotta cheese, and toppings.
  2. Cook at 350 for around 20 minutes, or until crust is done.
  3. Sprinkle on parmesan cheese topping before eating.
  4. Enjoy!

Here is my pizza before going in the oven:

And here it is cooked:

Recipe for Vegan Ricotta and Cottage Cheese Substitue

This recipe is so easy to make and it goes great on pizza, and lasagna too I would imagine. The ingredients you will need are:
  • 1 package soft tofu (use organic)
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or crushed garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of Italian herbs, if desired
  • salt to taste
Put ingredients in blender, like so: (I used my Ninja)
Blend mixture until smooth, and it is ready to use! :)

Even my husband, who is not a tofu fan, likes this. He thinks it tastes just like cottage cheese. Here is is cooked up on a pizza:
Enjoy!
Until next time.... God bless!

Namaste Foods Say Cheez Product Review

I recently had the opportunity to try Namaste's Say Cheez pasta. When I received the delivery, I was very eager to try it:
This product is gluten free and it is vegan. The actual pasta is made from brown rice and hemp seed, though you wouldn't know that if you weren't told. The pasta has no unusual flavor- it is just really good. It holds together very well too- doesn't seem to have any tendency toward sogginess at all.

The contents of the bag before preparation:

As you can see, assembling the ingredients couldn't be easier! Simply boil the pasta, drain, then add the seasoning along with 3 tablespoons of oil and 1 tablespoon of water. I found the taste to be pleasant, and it was reminiscent of cheese. Enjoy!

This Friday, August the 20th a winner will be randomly chosen in the Namaste Food Giveaway here on Yummy Vegetarian Delights. If you haven't entered yet, take a moment to do so now. :)

Until next time.... God bless!

Recipe for Vegan Parmesan Cheese Substitute

This recipe tastes even better than parmesan cheese, and it is so good for you! The walnuts contain omega 3s and the nutritional yeast contains amino acids. And it tastes sooo yummy! I found this recipe on a fellow foodie's blog. For this recipe you will need:
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • pinch of salt
  • coconut oil
(Double the recipe as needed for the amount you need.)
  1. Toast the walnuts on the stovetop for a few minutes in a little coconut oil.
  2. Place in blender with nutritional yeast and salt.
  3. Blend into a fine powder.
  4. It is now ready to use. This stuff is GOOD. Enjoy! :)
Until next time.... God bless!

Sliceable Vegan 'Cheese' Recipe

This recipe creates an oatmeal based cheese substitute that can actually be sliced and is quite good. The recipe is not that difficult to make at all. I say give it a try! :) (I discovered this recipe online at Wellsphere) I modified the recipe very slightly. I ate most of this cheese by itself, though it is very good on wheat thins too! :)

For this recipe you will need:
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast
  • 1/3 cup of oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon raw sesame seeds
  • 4 tablespoons arrowroot
  • the juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  1. Mix all of the ingredients together very well in a blender, such as the Ninja
  2. Heat the mixture on the stovetop, using medium heat & stirring constantly, until it becomes quite thick.
  3. Transfer to oiled dish.
  4. Put in fridge for @ 8 hours.
  5. Lick bowl- yum! :)
  6. Enjoy the rest 8 hours later!
